The History of the School
Montessori Palau Girona is a school, located in the city of Girona. It began in 1967 based on an educational project: to offer families a new school which would provide the ideal framework for physical, intellectual and human development of their children.
From the 1990s onwards, the School underwent a renewal process in its style of teaching with the application of the Montessori Method. This started with the training of the teaching staff in the certification from the Association Montessori Internationale (AMI). This process involved a professionalisation of the management and organisation of the School, while not losing its status as a family business.
The implementation of the Montessori Educational Method, together with the teaching innovations and educational research, has resulted in the Montessori Palau School becoming a centre of international renown with more than one thousand pupils.
Montessori Palau Girona was founded in October 1967 through the link with the Montessori School in Girona. The founders of the new school, Lluís Julià Ventura and Maria Barnadas Rigau, moved it to the outskirts of the city, into an environment surrounded by nature. From the outset, it was decided it would be a mixed school, one in which the cultural and sporting aspects were to be included in the education of all the students, and first-class facilities were planned.
Thanks to the positive results obtained through this innovative methodology, the School went through a period of growth, both in terms of the number of students and the quality of the facilities, which coincided with a new generation taking over in 1991. At the same time, the school underwent pedagogical renewal aimed at applying the Montessori Educational Method and starting with the training of the teaching staff in the certification from the Association Montessori Internationale (AMI). This process involved a professionalisation of the management and organisation of the School, while maintaining its status as a family business.
The implementation of the Montessori Educational Method from the 1990s, together with the teaching innovations and the educational research, has led the Montessori Palau Girona to become a school of international renown.
