Programme of the Welcoming the newborn

First session. The importance of the prepared environment

Neuroscientific and Psychological Bases

The four Planes of Development that human beings go through from birth to adulthood, as described by Dr. Maria Montesssori, will be introduced, and neuronal activity in the newborn will be explained. The sensitive periods are "windows of opportunity", where the child is directed with great passion towards something that exists in the environment and that helps them acquire an ability or capacity. We will talk about what can help us understand and observe the sensitive periods that the child goes through during early childhood.

The importance of the first weeks of life: the symbiotic period

During the early days and beyond the special relationship established between the mother and the newborn, the father plays an important role. In this section, we will analyse what this role is and will introduce the vision of the breastfeeding process according to Dr. Silvana Quattrocchi Montanaro.

The prepared environment I (up to 8 months)

The child is born into a world of adults but, since their physical proportions are different from those of the adult, it has different requirements. So how should the prepared environment look like? At this point, we will offer suggestions regarding what the physical environment of the newborn should be like, and how it can be modified to meet their needs without involving great economic expenses.

The child, the father of the man

We will talk about the ‘inner teacher’ and our ability to observe, a skill that we can develop in order to improve our understanding of the needs of our son or daughter.
