Boundaries that care: How to connect in the midst of conflict
Speaker: Natividad Beltrán
Place: Montessori Palau Girona Auditorium
Aimed at: for all school families and primary and secondary school students.
-
How do we set clear boundaries without being too strict or too permissive?
-
How do we maintain connection while holding firm to a ‘no’?
-
What do boundaries limit and what do they enrich?
-
What language and presence give us, as parents, the confidence that we are promoting our children's development and not ‘harming’ them in the process?
One of the biggest challenges as parents is setting boundaries that protect both our children and our relationship with them. This is not something we should avoid, as it is a natural part of the human process, and aggression that is not addressed leaves its mark. It is not about eliminating conflict, but about turning it into an opportunity for growth and connection.
The real challenge is not in avoiding differences or conflicts, but in how we manage them. Do we react to protect ourselves, or do we respond with understanding? Non-Violent Communication offers us concrete tools to maintain connection even in the midst of disagreement or emotional intensity.
During the conference, we will discuss the following topics in depth:
-
How to listen beyond behaviour, getting to the bottom of things to identify the real needs at stake
-
How to set boundaries in a way that supports our children's development at all levels, including emotionally and socially
-
How to maintain inner calm and empathy, especially when we feel overwhelmed, challenged, or attacked
-
How to lead through these difficult moments with authenticity and without losing warmth, acting and speaking with clarity, respect, and compassion
The goal is not to be perfect parents, but to be present, authentic and respectful. With tools that allow us to better understand our children and how to best meet their needs—at any age—we can act with greater confidence that we are supporting their growth while remaining true to ourselves and caring for everyone.
This conference will be held in Spanish.
